A Vision Rooted in the Land
Waipono Farms is being built on Maui with a long view toward restoring the land, honoring the people who belong to it, and creating something that gives back more than it takes.
What was taken
In 1893, a queen was overthrown. A people lost their land.
Queen Lili'uokalani, the last sovereign of the Hawaiian Kingdom was illegally deposed. What followed was 130 years of cultural erasure, land seizure, and an economy built to extract from the islands rather than sustain them.

What We Are Working Toward
We’re building Waipono Farms as a direct response to what was taken. A place on Maui where the land is restored rather than depleted, Hawaiian culture is practiced and passed forward rather than preserved behind glass, and the people who belong to this āina have access to housing, food, and opportunity on their own terms.This is not a finished thing. It is a commitment in action, one phase at a time, with the people of Maui at the center of every decision.
130 years of compounding loss
The Hawaiian language was banned. Sacred lands were seized for military bases and sugar plantations. The ahupua'a system, watershed-to-coast stewardship, was dismantled. Today, Native Hawaiians are the most housing-insecure population in their own homeland.

Every Visitor Leaves a Footprint. Waipono Changes What Kind.
Many visitors to Maui leave behind plastic waste, carbon emissions, and dollars that flow off-island. On an island, the math of extractive tourism is inescapable. Waipono is being built on a different premise. What if coming to Maui meant the land was better for it? What if your visit funded local food production, supported Hawaiian cultural programs, and created housing for the people who live here? That is the model we are building toward. One piece of land, working as a complete ecosystem.

Becoming a gathering place. Kids camps, a farmers market, and a food truck park make Waipono a home for the people of Maui, not just a destination.

Honoring the sacred. Farm stays, a farm store and deli, weddings, concerts, and retreats root the hospitality experience in the meaning of this particular land.

Keeping knowledge alive. Educational programs, online courses, and business intensives make Waipono a place where learning flows in both directions.

Everything in harmony. Kūpuna housing, full community scale, and a replication model that can carry this vision beyond Maui.
What the Land
Asks of Us
Most developments extract value from a place. Waipono is being built to keep it here. The way this works is not complicated. The land supports agriculture. Agriculture feeds the restaurant. The restaurant draws the community. The community creates the conditions for cultural programming, education, events, and eventually housing that keeps local families on Maui.
Nothing here is separate from anything else. That is not an accident. It is the whole point. And all of it, every part of what Waipono is becoming, is rooted in four commitments that do not change, no matter what else grows around them. These are not aspirations.
